Alfa Alpha Lipoic Acid is a pale yellow powder crystal, almost tasteless. The solubility in water is small, about 1 g/L (20°C). Soluble in 10% NaOH solution, soluble in aliphatic solvent. It is easily soluble in methanol, ethanol, chloroform and ether. Lipoic acid is also called alpha-lipoic acid. Lipoic acid has a chiral center, so it has both R and S configurations. The NATURAL lipoIC ACID IS a white CRYSTAL WITH only the R configuration, AND only the R-CONFIGURATION lipoIC acid can be covalently conjugated to a lysine residue via an amide bond to function as a coenzyme.
The synthesized lipoic acid is a mixture of R configuration and S configuration in equal proportion. It is a pale yellow powder substance, which is easily soluble in the solvent of lipids.
